Kamala Harris has fully embraced “brat summer”, setting her apart from more traditional campaigns. Our brat generator can help visualize how different political approaches might look in the “brat summer” style. Follow Kamala Harris’s lead by using our brat generator to create bold, “brat”-style images. Share them with trending hashtags like #bratsummer or #KamalaIsBrat. “You’re just like that girl who is a little messy and likes to party and maybe says some dumb things some times,” Charli explained on social media. The album’s artwork is a lime green square with the word brat written in the middle in a low resolution Arial font.

The album was nominated for the Mercury Prize 2024 while Guess featuring Billie Eilish debuted at No 1 on the UK Official Singles Chart, making Charli the first British artist top the charts this year. Embark on a journey of self-expression and design with Brat Generator, a captivating creative tool that empowers you to channel your inner artist while celebrating the bold aesthetic of Charli XCX. Whether you’re crafting custom memes, personalizing album-inspired covers, or exploring vibrant colors, Brat Generator combines the thrill of artistic freedom with the satisfaction of playful creativity. While initially she struggled to find a direction, on a trip to Los Angeles to meet with producers she clicked with Ariel Rechtshaid, who would soon have success with Vampire Weekend, Haim and Sky Ferreira. In 2011, Charli released two of their collaborations as singles, “Stay Away” and “Nuclear Seasons,” which captured the attention of Pitchfork and the alternative media. At around the same time, a song she’d created with a different producer, Swedish-born Patrik Berger, was covered by the duo Icona Pop.

Beyoncé knew what she was doing when she made Cowboy Carter—it’s an art piece just like Renaissance, and she included homages to legendary artists like Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, and Linda Martell. What Cowboy Carter proves is that Queen Bey doesn’t do anything by accident, and she doesn’t do anything by halves. The critically acclaimed album, which is considered her long-awaited mainstream breakthrough, also inspired the fashion trend “Brat Girl Summer” as the cover art and multiple songs went viral last month. With the Grammy-nominated album Brat, Charli XCX solidifies her role as a trendsetter in the world of music and pop culture. The album performed exceptionally well in its first week of release, with pure album sales reaching 40,000 and over 46 million streams. I mean I somewhat agree, I like that each cover is like a reflection of her evolution.

While these lyrics were introspective, they weren’t what brought this song to popularity; rather, it was the viral dance trend for Apple, spurring on brat’s publicity through TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. TikTok has long been an app that brings underground artists and underrated songs to light, and Apple was no different. The summer of 2024 was defined by the color #8ACE00 – a bright, vivid “brat green”.

“I was like, ‘I think I will do a press shoot and then maybe we just save on the album cover,'” she told Lowe, noting that her manager, creative director and friends all though the lower case cover text was “the stupidest idea ever,” begging her “no! ” Charli being Charli, that only made her more adamant about seeing her vision through, which began with her mocking up the idea on her phone. Brat is the sixth studio album by English singer Charli XCX, released through Atlantic Records on 7 June 2024. It features production by Charli XCX, her longtime executive producer A. G. Cook, Finn Keane, Cirkut, her partner George Daniel, and others.

During her Billboard interview, Charli scrolled through her texts all the way back to March 16, 2022. That was the day that she said to her friends, “I think it should just be one word on the album cover… Maybe it should be called ‘brat.” She didn’t actually start writing the album until six months later in Mexico City, but used the title as inspiration for the attitude she aimed to encapsulate in the music. Because while a politician needs cold, hard votes, a pop star can skate by on good vibes and a vaguer sense of cultural impact. The numbers that quantify popularity—sales—were never really on Charli’s side.

In a world where image is often curated to perfection, Charli’s album art is refreshingly raw and honest. It mirrors the themes of rebellion and individuality that permeate her music. On 22 February, during her Boiler Room warehouse set, XCX debuted snippets of tracks identified as “Spring Breakers” and “365”.[11] She was joined onstage by Addison Rae and Julia Fox;[12] a “Von Dutch” remix with Rae and A. G. Cook was released on 22 March.[13] On 6 March, she premiered “So I” at the Billboard Women in Music event.[14] “Club Classics” and “B2B” were released on 3 April as a two-pack promotional single. Commercially, Brat was Charli’s biggest yet, though it lagged behind Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish on the Billboard 200.

The absolute stranglehold that Charli XCX had on the world this summer is comparable to Beatlemania. With the release of her album Brat, Charli hurled us all into a hyper-sexualized, sweaty, clubby fugue state. It was a way to get ahold of the younger generation, to make them stop and look and acknowledge things. For artists and fans, the Brat Generator serves as a canvas for artistic exploration.
